Here's the note for DP as published in my CHRISTIE'S fizz encyclopedia in 1998. Although I've tasted the 1966 just once since then, it was perfectly in accord with these sentiments. However, and it is a big however, as Bucko and I have said many a time, it very much depends on storage. This applies to all wines, I know, but Champagne is particularly sensitive to changes in light and temperature (ie. the darkness of your cabinet is fine, but what's the temperature, how long has it been there and where was it prior to the cabinet?). As for the value, D&M currently sell a DP 1966 for $450 and the same wine can fetch more than twice the price in the UK, where distribution and storage are less problematic, although even then it can only achieve the top end - $1,000+ - if the provenance is impeccable. The price of this wine should increase at well above inflation rate for the next 10 years or so.
