I am partial to Valpolcella and Salice Salentinos. They are great intro wines to italy. Easy drinking, very food friendly and best of all, relatively inexpensive. Also, look for Dolcettos and Barberas.

Best bet is to go to the italian thread and pull up the last years worth and check out the various recommendations.
