Hi Lacey and welcome to the Wine Board. Do taste as many wines as you can, and don't get discouraged.

There are retailers in your neck of the woods who hold regular tastings. Some are free, and if so you may want to a least pick up a bottle afterward.

There is a wealth of information on the board, neatly categorized, as well as on several other forums.

A book which has become a kind of standard for wine drinkers is Andrea Immer (Robinson's) "Great Wine Made Simple." It is available just about anywhere in hardback, paperback, new or used. It is also probably at your public library.
