Nothing to be sorry for. Just trying to help here. Merlot is not supposed to get sour unless you are referring to the dregs in the bottom of the bottle. Try to avoid those. Shiraz or merlot are not supposed to get sour any earlier. Of the three wines, shiraz/shrah is supposed to be the spiciest. Cabernet should be fruity with notes of black current or the liquor Cassis. Merlot should be smooth and plumy.
