Christine,

First, welcome to the Wine Board. Which "California valley" do you live in? There are probably about 7 or 8 valleys that I know of within an hour of Napa/Sonoma. Most of them have wineries in them as well. What are the the differences? Well, a lot depends on what wines you like, whether or not you like the great big wineries, the very small wineries, or something in the middle. So, where are you, what's near you, what do you like?
