I like Spanish red with paella: Crianza from Navarra, Ribera del Duero, Ribera del Guardiana, and even Rioja are ok.

Priorat does not seem to do it for me--that's mainly a red meat wine.

But, in line with IK and garnacha, I also find Cotes de Provence and many Languedoc reds pair well with Paella. In the very south of France, along the Mediterranean/Pyerenees border with Spain, Paella is a main food in the French part that once was Catalonia, about an hour's drive from Barcelona. The red wines in that region are often laced with grenache, and other Rhone-like grapes.
