Hi Ak, and welcome to the Wine Board. Here's is the perfect little book for you to pick up or get from Amazon or their likes if you just can't pick it up: "Wine Buying Guide for Everyone", by Andrea Immer. In addition to being a pocket guide that does not go out of date (it came out in '02) because she evaluates widely distributed wines that are steady year in and year out; she has what she calls "Kitchen Countertop Survivor Guides" for red wines. This, latter, is exactly what you are looking for.
