Jes, I agree with you about Nouveau Beaujolais (not my cup a wine either), but I completely disagree with you about your assessment of the Gamay grape. You obviously have no experience with real Beaujolais. And it is a fact that wine doesn't need to be aged or fermented in oak in order to be good.

Incidentally, California Merlot or Cabernet doesn't seem to fit the newbie's taste preference for sweet wine, unless you are talking about the great mass of junk Merlot that comes out of California.
