Suggestions?

Lucky duck! Wish I were going. We found a great little wine bar in Rome on the Campo di Fiore called the Vineria (I think). They have dozens of different varietals by the glass, and it was pretty inexpensive. It seemed to be a popular destination for locals after work; we found ourselves going there every night before making our way out to dinner. Tuscany is tough without a car, but there are enotecas in Montalcino and Siena (both located in historic fortresses) where you can taste a variety of wines from different producers. Not sure about Florence since we didn't spend much time there. But we did have great gelato there at a place called Gelateria Neri! Enjoy!
Also, you might want to check out the wine-specific forum on these boards for Italian varietals -- they might have some more specific producers to look for...
