...and then somewhere in the early 1980s a gentleman trying to sell truly poor wine came up with the idea to sell truly poor wine in a truly poor format--the packaged wine cooler.

Over time, most so-called wine coolers became nothing more than fruit juice with added sweetners and distilled alcohol--not a drop of wine to be found.

The best part of the story is that the FAD was short-lived.

Innkeeper, I love what you said about packaged foods. In all my existence I shall never understand how lazy people can be as to buy packaged foods that are both bad for us and not nearly as good as the real concoctions made at home--salad dressing is among my pet peeve packaged abominations. Can't think of anything so simple as creating one's own dressing!
