This is probably scandalous to tell you...but you might try a good Burgundy...for example try the Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Proces from Robert Arnoux (98 for eg.). Although it'll cost you about 60 bucks ...but you'll get a definitive answer if you like Pinot Noirs...if you like it then try a bunch of both Oregon (since that's where you are) and French (for variety) until you find the elements of what you like in a Pinot.

If you don't want to spend that much, I'm sure your local wine store carries some cheaper burgundies...
