Hi JohnG. A couple of approaches:

1) type "dessert" in the search function on this site & you'll find some excellent ideas.

2) check out the following site for other suggestions matched to numerous specific desserts:

3) For an argument in favor of dessert wines AS dessert see the "desserts" link on the following page:
http://wineloverspage.com/foodwine/
They also note a fave' of ours: Pedro Ximenez sherry..we prefer the Lustau brand..great over fine vanilla ice cream.
