Cassis is made from blackcurrants. As far as I'm concerned if a wine is described as having a Cassis aroma, it has a very pronounced blackcurrant aroma. If you are not familiar with the smell of blackcurrants (you will not be alone with that)I suggest you go to a GOOD wine retailer and ask for a wine that has a pronounced Cabernet Sauvignon aroma. You never know, they may have one open you can try.I am not greatly familiar with what is stocked in the States, but perhaps another Board member will suggest a good example. Please bear in mind that you don't need to spend a lot to get a good example. Hope that helps. T.
