Barnsey's choices are right on. Another fruity red wine is barbera, either from Italy or California. The younger and more inexpensive the better. We have not mentioned whites. A good place to start is with riesling. If it is not from Alsace or Austria, and if it does not say "dry" or "trocken" on the label, it will be at least slightly off dry and sometimes very off dry. All styles of riesling are wonderful.
