I don't believe this is a stupid question. How about when the reviewer states the wine will go another 6-10yrs. I find myself looking for the date of the review.

I'm guessing here, but I believe the answer is: it depends on the context in which it is said. But most of the time, the years from vintage, not release, I believe are intended.
