I agree with the sommelier approach, and there is no shame in asking an open question that shows you don't drink or know much about wine, that's what they're there for.

If there is no sommelier or you are still too uncomfortable to ask for one, then one choice might be a white wine from Vouvray, in the Loire Valley of France. Look for one that the wine list describes as "off-dry" or "semi-sweet."
