As long as the inventory turns over every six months, it should not be a problem. Super markets up here keep everything upright too, and this does factor into what I buy there. If you move to more upscale wines, you would be wise to obtain a display case that would allow horizontal storage, added security, and perhaps even temperature/humidity control.
