Really new newbie ???

There are some Canadians and probably some Michiganites on this board who can steer you in the right direction. You can also establish a relationship with a local merchant who can give you good recommendations.

There's always something new to learn; something new to taste. I am very much a newbie myself, and have found the experts on this board to be wonderful sources of information and recommendations. You'll enjoy your journey.
