Hi Jewels, and welcome to the Wine Board. Retail is the best and easist place to start. Would not quit my day job, until nailing down a good position. Many retailer is New York are open in the evening, giving you an opportunity for a little moon lighting.

If after time, you can make contact with distributors, and perhaps move up the wine chain with them. Distributor have contact with wineries, wineries have contact with grape growers, etc. Somewhere along the line, wine writers fit in; I'm not sure where.
