which wine to choose...

Hello,
I don't really know much about wine, but I was thinking of picking up a bottle to give to my girlfriends' parents as a gift, as I'll be meeting them for the first time. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what would be a good "nice to meet you" wine. I'm not sure if they really know much about wine in general, but I would like to make a good impression with a nice bottle (anywhere from $20-$50) that I could pick up at a local liquor store. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
