marriage proposal ????? NEED HELP

I am going to be proposing to my girlfriend (in a very romantic fashion) later this month. I will be turning 21 a few days before hand so my knowledge of wines is terrible. I know she likes red wine, and sweet or dry I do not know. I would like to keep the price around $50.00 since the night and ring has put me under. So could you please suggest some red wines sweet and dry that would be impressive. I believe she likes merlot, and zinfandel, but from what I have gathered it is much more complex than that. Also if you would be so kind to mention a few good sparkling and desert wine that would be great also. thank you
