Happy Compromise?

My fiance, Sam, and I have decided that we want to have one special wine for our wedding day, and that we can also enjoy on our anniversaries and special occasions..
The concern is finding one Sam and I both like. He has long professed he doesn't like wine, but we recently attended a wine festival that featured wineries from our home state. He actually had a good time and found some that he likes.
My problem is that Sam found he likes the more dry, red varieties and I prefer the sweeter, white varieties. I don't know a whole lot about wines, but would like to try to find one that we can enjoy together. Does anyone have any suggestions?
