I like to serve Valpolicella with my spagetti (red sauce). Zenato is a good and readily available brand. If you can find it, Corte Sant'Alda is excellent. Both of these are between $8-$12. Salice Salentino, like the other folks suggested, is also good.

I tend to avoid Chianti and Barbera with spaghetti. Too acidic with the tomatoes. If all you can find is chianti, then it will work alright.
