I think the best thing to do is find out what tastes good to you first. Then do some research on wines that my be a bit more expensive or cheaper than the one you are tasting. I usually set myself a limit (18 - 30 dollars) and make my decision based on " was this wine worth the cost" better still did I enjoy the wine. Some wines are more costly than others but that does not mean it is a good wine. There are several resources on the web as well as good magazines that can help you with your decision making. Remember, what tastes good to you makes the biggest difference.
