Good sake or Japanese beer seem to be near the top as far as the "best match" is concerned so far as I can determine.

However, if wine is the choice then it should lean towards being light, high acid, with little or no residual sweetness. (Which tends to shoot down trying Viognier which is a medium bodied wine - but I'd be willing to give it a try only if it were the French variety.)

However, I am not convinced that I would want to quaff the wine with the sushi. With the soup before sushi and then as a thirst quencher after sushi might be the course I'd take. I tend to believe that the sushi should stand by itself when crossing the palate (along with a little soy and wasabi, of course).
