It's been about ten years since I've visited Napa wineries. I too enjoyed lunch at Domaine Chandon. (I stayed twice at Wine Country Inn and loved the view and accommodations and breakfasts there). I enjoyed visiting Sterling Vineyards for the funicular ride, view from on high, Moorish architecture, self-guided tour, etc. I believe Beringer was another good tour. If I were to go again I would probably spend more time on the Silverado Trail.
I have a conference in Monterey in April 2005 (lucky me!) and plan to spend a couple nights in San Francisco and one night at Applewood Inn in Sonoma following the conference. Let us know about your Sonoma experience. I hope to visit Geyser Peak, DeLoach, Lynmar, Seghesio, possibly Gallo, and a couple more. (Add Siduri and Joseph Swan to that list. Maybe Gary Farrell if he has a tasting room.) A contributor on another wine board recommended Land's End in Jenner, CA for dinner with a spectacular ocean view. Also Farmhouse Restaurant towards Highway 101, and Underwood's in Graton. He said the town of Sebastopol has a decent restaurant and wine bar but didn't specify the name. I looked up Farmhouse and it's an inn and restaurant on River Road in Forestville, CA (Russian River Valley). There's a website at www.farmhouseinn.com.
Correction: The restaurant/inn in Jenner along Highway 1 is River's End, not Land's End.
