Returned Monday night from our 2nd Anniversary trip to Cape Cod. We stayed in Truro and had a great time. Sunday afternoon we visited this tiny little winery which has apparently been open only 12 years or so. Got a tour and tasted what they have to offer. My hopes were not high, but when the tour arrived in the barn where they make the juice, I was discouraged to see a pallet of sugar. When I asked, our guide said it was for the rose. She also said, in the same breath, that their Chard is influenced more by France than California, and that oak is a signature flavor of the grape.

Sure enough, the Chard was pretty oaky and the rose sickly sweet. There were several others, some blends. Some were fairly decent but none spoke to me. Most were over-oaked for my taste and not worth the price. It seems they buy most of their grapes from California and NY; the vinyard is too small to rely only on what it can produce on-site.

Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves, and I hope to be able to lure my wife to some higher-quality vinyards soon.
