$31.99 on sale at Bassin's/Macarthur Beverages in Washington, DC. This was the Silver Anniversary edition (1970-1995) with special silver labeling.
I decided it was time to open this reserve wine. I was worried when the cork had a crack in it. Sure enough, it crumbled in the process of extracting it. I poured the wine through a tea strainer three or four times, removing all but the smallest cork particles.
Deep purple-red color, lightens and thins at the rim. More crimson emerges as the amount of wine in the glass diminishes.
Nose of Morello cherries, African violets, acetone? Flavors of dark cherries and plums with a long finish.
Ready to drink or maybe starting to decline--not sure how much the iffy cork impacted on the wine--would like to compare with the same vintage in perfect condition..
Still an enjoyable wine but maybe it would have been even better with a solid cork.
I was getting home late from work and didn't have time for cooking so ate with frozen dinners of chicken and fried rice one night and chicken with white rice and broccoli another night.
