Got a bit backlogged with aging roses, so we're trying to clear the decks of the older stuff before the summer. Actually, since the '05 Beaujolais are so fun to drink, particularly a bit chilled in the summertime, we'll likely cut back on rose consumption.

Anyway, had the '04 Charles Melton rose from Barossa Valley fruit, a (very specific) blend of 35.7% Shiraz, 30.1% Grenache, 25.9% Cab, and 8.3% Pinot Meunier. As stated above, it really has the characteristics of a red. Bright, clear firehouse red in the glass, with aromas and flavors of cherry and crushed red berries. A bit of red currant shows up on the crisp, clean finish. Very yummy served chilled, and it would go very well with lighter picnic fare. 11% alc. We paid about $12.
