2005 Le Haut Lieu Sec: $25 Very rich and focused. 3 word tasting notes. I say: Rich, stony and elegant. Just a great dry white. Pops says: Rich, Umami, Flowers. Wife says: Yum, yum, yum.
Definitely has that cool "dry honey" Chenin thing and a touch of botrytis, yet still dry.

I have no idea how so many California houses can charge what they charge for Chardonnay when this tastes like it does for $25. Oh well. Different strokes...

2005 Le Mont Demi-Sec: $28 The Sec was young, but really good. I think it is a bit more tragic that I opened this. This baby has done been slain. Similar in profile to the Sec, but apricot and honey and even richer. Worlds of musky goodness lie in wait, but not dancing just yet.

I'd say the '05 vintage is really, really good without being epic like 2002. I would trust the Sec to age for a while and the Demi-Sec longer, but it doesn't seem indestructible like the '02's I've tasted.

'01 Marcoux Chateauneuf tomorrow night. It's a good weekend.
