Heavy, heavy snow coming down

I remember waking up one night as a child in Nebraska to hear something striking the tin roof over the back porch. I looked out the window and saw blue lightning. I thought we were under some kind of attack by the Russians and that bullets were hitting the tin roof. Went running to my parents to wake them up and Dad reassured me that it was just a hailstorm. But I'd never seen that blue lightning before or since.
