I had to go with cable because I am too far away from the telephone company's switch for DSL.

I had been holding out for DSL with my previous ISP - mindspring.com. But because our house is more than a couple of miles from the telephone company switch, we can't do DSL. Dial-up was costing me charge for the ISP and the second phone line.

Cable hook-up is with cox.net. The monthly service charge is less than I was paying for ISP and telephone line for dial-up.

And man does it whiz. Speed is amazingly fast. Web sites show up in parts of a second instead parts of a minute.

And to top it all off, if I have to use a modem for something, I still have it available.
