Welcome to the board Cowboy.
Sauvignon Blanc is a good varietal to pair with asparagus and should do okay with the quiche also. My favorite domestic Sauvignon Blanc is from St. Supery (under $20). Or you might impress by choosing one from Sancerre district in France or from New Zealand. Because of the very hot summer in Europe in 2003, it would be best to choose a Sancerre from 2002 if you can locate one. Reverdy, Cotat, Jolivet, Lucien Crochet, Fournier, Mellot are all names to consider. From New Zealand I favor Kim Crawford or Selaks or Bedford Road but there are many others that are probably impressive. You can read tasting notes under the Australia, New Zealand, South Africa thread.
