Maybe I already posted this but for several weeks around Memorial Day we had a field of flags in Fayetteville near the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. For $25 you could purchase a flag and have it tagged with the name of someone who had served in the military (could be still living or dead, a career soldier or an enlistee.) I purchased flags to honor my father and two of his brothers who all served in World War II years (and survived) and a Civil Affairs corporal who died in Iraq with a National Guard unit. He was the first soldier I knew slightly who was killed in Afghanistan or Iraq and so his memory has stayed with me. I took photos of the field of flags and the ones tagged for my uncles so that I could send copies to my cousins.
