Virginian Rhone Ranger

Horton Vineyards, Stonecastle, Bin 2000, Virginia. This is basically a Rhone blend consisting of 84% mourvedre, carignan, and syrah. The remaining 16% are tiny bits of just about every other red grape in the world. Anyway the nose and entry was all about fruit and spices, mild tannin and modest acid in der middle, and a nice finish. It is NV, but the Bin 2000 thing could mean it was bottled up last year. The mild tannins indicate the wine isn't going anywhere from here. Quite similiar to a young Cotes Du Rhone without the Old World quality, i.e. earth. Was delightful with a light supper of cheese and summer sausage, but would match nicely with any dish you would have a C-D-R with.
