Yesterday afternoon the thunderstorms rolled through the Baltimore region and I found myself without power. 6pm the sun returned but still no power, I thought "I have a deck and a propane grill...if I'm gonna eat, I have to grill!" I had picked up a bottle of 1998 Chateau de la Negly, Coteaux du Landuedoc Curvee de la Cote at $9.49 a bottle. Beautiful black ruby color with a nose of dark fruit, mushroom and other earthy notes. Medium bodied with a smooth mouth feel and flavors of spicy plum with earth tones and a little chocolate up front. A beautiful wine for the money. I prepared a grilled, quartered baking potato whith grilled veggies and a slab filet of catfish sprinkled with spicy "Old Bay" Maryland seasoning. The wine went perfect with the spicy grilled catfish. I don't know if I would always pick a southern Rhone for this dish but if Randy C. can drink Pinot with everything.....I can drink a Rhone with catfish.
