1998 Donny Doon, Pacific Rim, Dry Riesling ($9.00). This is the wine that Randall makes from juice from California, Washington State, the Mosel, and Nahe. It is considered a light riesling, but it weighs in at 12.5%, unless that number was mindlessly posted.

It offered lemons and melons on the nose and upfront. The same carries across the palate with a respectable shot of acidity. A hint of pear cries out on the way down.

All this is meant to say that it makes a perfect marriage with Maine lobster. We dip ours into a mixture of juice of a lemon and a tablespoon of melted butter, so the acidity is belly, belly important. So, it was very delightful with our 1 1/4 lb steamed lobsters, a pint of freshly made cold slaw, and local strawberries (yes, they're in) with whipped cream.

Try a bottle soon. The label is almost as much fun as the contents. One note of caution; the bright orange synthetic cork was almost a match for my ole Screwpull.
