I couldn't pass up a bottle of Penescal sauvignon blanc for $6.99. Earlier I'd tried their temperanillo for the same price, and found it to be a nice quaffer, good for burgers, pizza, etc.

The SB was ok. A very light straw in color, it basically was a one-note wine: grapefruit on the nose, on the palate, and, briefly, on the finish. It neither had the opulent tropical fruit of a New Zealand SB, nor the minerally crispness of a good Loire SB.

My wife compared it to a wine cooler, but I think that is a bit harsh.

This was the first Spanish white I've tried, so I have no idea how representative this one is.
