1999 Concha y Toro Puente Alto Marques de Casa Cabernet Sauvignon ($12.99) Deep purple. Decanted for 1 hour. Then gave up a reluctant nose of smoke, plums, earth. Taste of same, plus other dark fruits. Medium drying tannins. 20-second + finish. 30 minutes later, chocolate added to the mix. Another 30 minutes, oak joined the party. After a night with the Vacu-Vin, tar showed in the nose and on the palate. A good, structured wine that I think will open up over the next couple years, and is a good value. But I think WS was overly enthusiastic with its score of 90 and Spectator Selection designation. That’s exactly what they gave the 99 Pine Ridge Rutherford cab the week before (which was a low score for that wine IMO). I don't find this Chilean effort to even be in the same league as that California gem. 87+/89
