We started the night with a 1990 Guigal Hermitage with steak and mushrooms. About an hour latter, we were going to have some Champange but decided to go to the Sauturne.
We went to the back porch facing the swimming pool and turned all the lights off except the underwater pool light. This made the water turn a shimmering iridescent aqua color. There was a light rain falling and the raindprops sparked like fireflies when they hit the pool water. Of course, the cat had to climb up between us to share in the experience. The dogs were not sure of the new lighting and kept a sharp nose out for intruders to protect the homefront.
The Riesussec was a midium dark gold color at 14%. The aroma was predominately of apricot and pears. The taste was full bodied and rich but the acidity balanced the wine beautifully. We could detect the taste of apricot, pears , fresh figs and dates. The finish was very long with a carmel buttery after taste. It reminded me of a candy apple using carmel and green apples. One of the best wine experiences we've had.
