port77/sticky stuff

I recently bought a bottle of Taylor's 1977 vintage port which has a bit of sticky brown residue around the cap/seal, particularly the bottom as it presumably was stored label-up. What is it? Is this normal? Is it bad? Does it affect its quality, value, taste?
