2001 Millsreef, Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc, Hawks Bay ($12 local). Nice herbaceous notes on nose and tongue tip, and mouthfilling complexity across the palate with tongue tingling layers of OAK! Damn, should have been alerted by the "Reserve" thing. Hope this is not a trend in Kiwiland.

All was not lost because we matched it with shrimp scampi which had strong enough flavors to fence with the oak. Our shrimp season started on the 15th of January, so it is the time of year when we have pickup trucks behind every snow bank in every parking lot selling it. Price this year is $1.90/lb head on, and $7.50/lb for meat.
