Short on tasting notes, but I will rank these three. The McGuigan was the biggest surprise, widely available and with good fruit and caramel, balanced with enough tannin to give it depth. The Jacob's Creek was all tannin and no fruit, with nowhere to go.

1) 2001 Annie's Lane Shiraz Clare Valley ($13)

2) 2001 McGuigan Shiraz Murray Valley Bin 2000 ($9) WS gave it an 88 and says (and I agree for once): "You can't beat the price for wine this good."

3) 2000 Jacobs’ Creek Shiraz South Australia Reserve ($13) WS gave it an 89 -- what were they thinking?
