wine with serial# on bottle?

A friend of mine was give 4 wine bottles by an old man of about 85 yrs old for helping him clean out his home before moving. When he got home he notices they each had a serial # and the label was in Italian: Nozzoli chianti classico, etc. Denominazion di Origine Controllata: 1977 imported by Kobrand NY. Does this mean anything important. We really know nothing of wine either way! any info would be appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day!
