Nouveau is the wine that the folks in Beaujolais release within weeks of the harvest. There your '05 was released in '05. It is meant for immediate consumption and, at best, hints at how the vintage of the better (normally) crafted wines will taste. The '05 Nouveau is fading now, and would not have tasted as well as it did in November.

Try a Beaujolais Village that is not a Nouveau from the '03 or '04 vintage to see the difference. They will be fruity sweet not sugarly sweet like some Rieslings.
