I had a glass of this with a veal entree at Luigi's restaurant last week. (IK has posted on the Secco Bertani Valpolicella Ripasso below). The vintage wasn't specified on the wine list and I didn't take notes because I was with a group (not all wine drinkers), but I liked this quite well.
One of my companions from Baltimore used to be a broker in the wine trade. His special area of expertise is wines of the Piedmont but he has a fairly broad knowledge of Italian wines and said that Secco Bertani is a reputable firm and that their Amarone is also a nice wine. This basic Valpolicella can be found for under $15 in some cities. Consider for when a light to medium-bodied red wine is appropriate.

Roberto and/or Foodie--what is your opinion of this producer?
