Kind of eclectic menu. You said he likes riesling.If you need to stick to rieslings, I would think Bonny Doon Pacific Rim Dry Riesling would be safe. Its about 9$. I think, though, if the prawns and lobster meat is served over the mushroom risotto with a truffle oil-based sauce, a light body, inexpensive red like a Carneros 2001 Hangtime pinot noir (about $12) might be a nice alternative. Any of the above will cost less than the prawns, lobster and truffle oil. Actually,since you describe him as knowlegeable, you may want buy one of each, chill 'em and let your guy select the wine when you serve the meal. Save the other for another evening or later that night! Have fun.
