$12, Rheingau

Well, my first German Pinot.
It's interesting exploring this grape outside of Oregon and Burgundy. (I've even heard that some people drink them from California, gasp!)

It's nicely perfumy, a bit fruit and a bit woodsy. In the mouth it has some oddly sweet cherry and stewed plum type notes with an undertone of roasted meat.

The sweetness is a bit bizarre and off-putting, but it does work with the other flavors.

Medium body, good flavor intensity, a bit light on the end, but pretty good. Would be better with food.

I've certainly had worse $12 pinot, but it's not something I'd search out again.
