I purchased this in 2000 (see this thread: http://wines.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000138.html)

As of yesterday I had three bottles left. Now I only have two left. I don't get a chance to drink "older" wine very often. The majority of the juice I drink is young, off the shelf, ready to drink now, which is just fine with me.

I gently decanted this bottle and found a small amount of sediment showing in the neck of the bottle toward the end of the pour - there was about 3 ounces left when I quit.

The wine in the decanter was clear and showing a dark ruby color with some slight tendancy toward brown on the meniscus.

The wine had a nice nose to it - I could smell dark fruit and a bit of earthy-leatheryness (is there such a word??).

Nice mouth feel with some fuzziness on the teeth, but not much more than a once around the teeth tongue lapper. The wine seemed balanced to me - I got fruit, I got tannin and I got acid; not to forget the bit of earthy-leather that was on the nose - it was on the tongue also.

I thoroughly enjoyed drinking this roughly 18 year old wine. I don't think I want to keep the other two bottles around too much longer - I am sure that I'll find good reason to drink them.

Verne - do have any of this juice in your cellar? Have you tried it lately? How do we compare on tasting notes.

Tonight I'll be drinking a younger CS - 1998 Paso Robles Cellars.
