Kat, with a heavier red like you have, try some stronger flavored cheeses so they are not overpowered by the wine. I prefer the soft ripe cheeses myself, like a good brie or camembert, also some of the smoked cheeses are great with red wines, a good smoked Gouda or Edam perhaps. Enjoy.
